Enabling Global Infrastructures

Ireland is and has long since been one of the strongest centers in the world for research and development of cutting-edge technologies which enable interoperable, distributed, systems. The software industry in Ireland ignited in the late 1970s, with the surge of multinational organizations investing and locating in Ireland. A workforce developed, as a result, to satisfy these large companies and Ireland gained a reputation for quality software engineering. This pedigree, coupled with a strong third-level education system that provides rigor of process and innovation in thinking, has created an economy in which Irish companies are leaders in their respective fields and top-class suppliers of radically innovative solutions to real business problems.

Delivering World-Class Technology

Irish solutions are designed to leverage existing IT portfolio assets and reduce costs. Along with being technically best-in-class, Irish companies focus on creating long-term partnerships in order to provide long-term value for organizations on a global scale.
Thinking SOA? Irish companies, such as IONA Technologies’ are a clear illustration of how Ireland is contributing to open industry standards. IONAs’ pioneering CORBA products, and their subsequent integration into a majority of enterprise systems, has resulted in their ongoing leadership in the middleware space. Other examples include CapeClear, Propylon and PolarLake who are all dedicated to continuously creating middleware solutions to support complex industries.

As a result of this rich history in developing middleware, Ireland is now a prominent area to source middleware solutions. According to Forrester, both IONAand CapeClear’s Enterprise Service Bus offerings lead the market.

When it comes to on-demand software, Ireland is a hotbed of innovation. LeCayla Technologies, a provider of billing and metering solutions for on-demand solutions providers, enables this current trend by creating products on an on-demand or pay-per-use basis. Others such as ScanData Systems provide hosted services such as document storage and archive solutions to blue-chip companies.
In other industries, technological excellence is prevalent with companies. Brightwork, for instance, offers a leading-edge project management suite for Microsoft’s Sharepoint platform. InnerWorkings provide an interactive learning and performance system to enhance the skills of software engineers.

Given this wealth of experience, a strong cluster of web2.0 companies have emerged, driving the development of the social internet. Companies such as Idiro and Nooked assist enterprises by helping to apply lessons learned in consumer markets.

Forging Global Relationships

Today, Ireland, rated the most entrepreneurial country in Europe, supplies high-end, high-value solutions to world-class organizations and Fortune 500 companies across the globe. From mission critical service-oriented business applications and components to the enterprise service buses and architectures to support these applications, Irish companies can provide real-time and world-class solutions to the enterprises changing business needs.
